The Venetian's Wife by Nick Bantock

I just finished reading this artful book by Nick Bantock (author of Griffin and Sabine chronicles) and it left me with such strong amorphous desire to share it with you...

Sara is my opposite. She's quiet, reserved and set in her ways. Yet, lately, she's been feeling quite trapped in her little world, being a conservationist in a certain museum. She's somehow yearning to get out of her shell, travel and do some exciting things that she has never done before. All these, she confides in her computer diary (much like what I do in my blog). Recently, she came across a painting of Shiva (one of the Indian goddesses), and events, both ethereal and preclusive, started unfolding.

Niccollo Conti on the other hand, serves as the missing piece at the other end of this esoteric equation. He lived in the 15th century, yet still found a way to exist amidst our reality.  Is he a spectre? a descendant? A crazy old man trying to lure Sara into a collusion of some kind? All he wants is to complete his wife's collection of missing Indian artifacts of gods and goddesses. His reasons far outweigh whatever harm it could cause little Ms. Sara.  And as the two begin to meet, the magical powers of the missing pieces slowly unfold and engulf Sara in a way that will change her life forever.

This book is a definite must-read for people who would like to escape their reality for a while. The story is fast-paced and can be finished in under an hour. Yet, after reading it, you'd feel like you've traveled far and wide for ages. It will leave you with fire and hunger for life. Don't miss it!
