At First Sight & True Believer by Nicholas Sparks

Nicholas Sparks, best-selling author of  A WALK TO REMEMBER and THE NOTEBOOK, wrote At First Sight  as a sequel to True Believer starring Jeremy Marsh  (a New Yorker and a well-known writer in the magazine Scientific American) and Lexie Darnell(a simple librarian in the small town of Boone Creek, Texas).

In the first book, True Believer, Jeremy Marsh set foot in the small town of Boone Creek to expose the amazing night lights in the town's cemetery which were believed to be supernatural. Even  Lexie believed  that the lights were ghosts of her parents who died when she was still young. Whether true or not, this belief has been one of the long-standing mysteries of this quaint little town helping it with its tourism. Therefore,  exposing it would mean getting into the bad side of its very eccentric mayor, Mr. Gherkins, and its people.

Watch how and when Jeremy unfolds not only this mystery, but the msytery of his heart as well, making him a true believer. In the second book, Jeremy's belief/unbelief is continuously tested as he and Lexie enters  the complex world of not just fleeting romance but real commitment. Will he give up his New York job in exchange for true happiness? Jeremy will learn a lot of things --- true friendship, real love and that not everything can be explained by science. Sometimes, you just have to believe.

Like all the other books of Nicholas Sparks that I have read (Bend In the Road, Nights at Rodanthe, A Walk To Remember, The Guardian, The Rescue, The Wedding,  Message In A Bottle, The Notebook), he will always leave you teary-eyed, sometimes even sobbing in the middle of the story. That's how Nicholas Sparks works. Each of his masterpieces tugs at one's heart. I cried a bucket and still I couldn't stop. Although the first book is a bit of a slow read, the sequel is much more easy to digest. For those who would like to have a quiet, melancholic afternoon, these books are definitely for you.
