The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

How I wish I could be someone like Samantha Sweeting (maybe in a parallel universe). You see, at twenty-nine, she has a very high-powered career as a top lawyer in London. She has no social life whatsoever; her mom and brother don't even bother to show up on her birthday, thus no home life to speak of; and all she cares about really is to get ahead and become a partner at their firm.

All this pressure and adrenaline rush finally came to crash down upon her when she made one little mistake that costs the company millions of pounds. Shattered, devastated and in shambles, she boarded a train and found herself lost in a small suburb in London where she was mistaken to be an applicant for a a housekeeper. Imagine?!

A top lawyer turned housekeeper! She took the job with no single clue how to run a household, do the laundry , let alone boil an egg! But since she knows she has lost the greatest dream of her life, what else can she do?  She knows she's smart. She figures she can pull this little con off. She may have deceived her employers  but  her subtle ways didn't come unnoticed by the gardener. It could be a bit unreal but Sophie Kinsella was able to pull this one off. In the process, Samantha found something she never thought she could ever yearn for. And it does not only include learning how to cook gourmet dishes or doing other household chores, but she also learns how to fall in love in the most surprising way. It's a fun read!

  1. This book is perfect for anyone who has ever had as much as they can take of their job...the protagonist is such a likeable character, and you are pulling for her the whole time. It also has a surprising twist here or there. If you like chick-lit, you will be in love with this book.
