Paul Chadwick's Concrete: Depths

This interesting graphic novel is one of those books given to me and my hubby as a gift from Gabriel Chee Kee, my cousin-in-law, who's a member of the famous Filipino band, Parokya ni Edgar. Everyone knows that Gab is such a geek when it comes to comic books so I was really surprised when he gave us three books from his collection, one of which is this classic and little-seen stories from the legendary CONCRETE series.  This is Book 1: Depths

Concrete is such an interesting character for me. He's part man and part rock... or maybe he's mostly rock, with a human mind and a human soul. He used to be a man after all, a man named Ronald Lithgow who is now inside a shell of a stone. He's 7 feet tall and weighs over one thousand pounds. He can do  so many  unbelievable things like stay underwater and walk the ocean's floor, survive a massive rubble, use super vision, etc. However, he can no longer feel the touch of a human hand; he can no longer taste and eat food; he can no longer do trivial things that normal people do.

In a way, it's sad but at the same time, it's exciting. Just imagine waking up one day and discovering all these superhuman stuff you can do. How would you feel? What would you do?  Honestly, if I was Concrete, I'd probably go crazy  for a little while. But for Concrete, he immediately saw this as a great opportunity to  literally come out of his shell and  go on discovering and doing things he wouldn't dream of doing in his entire life! After all,  like the cliche from a famous graphic novel character goes, with great power comes great responsibility. Concrete embraced both! So thus began his greatest adventures.

I hope to read the other books in the Concrete series and I hope it's as interesting as Depths. :-)
